THOUGHTS FOR YOU.

The most important step the player himself can make is to accept responsibility for his development- and that means demanding far more of himself than any outsider would. He’s got to:

 -  Set his own fitness/strength standards-it’s useless doing just enough to satisfy the coach: he must be intent on exacting increasing maxima from his body and his mind.

 -  Eliminate avoidable mistakes from the routine skills by prolonged concentration in practice.

 -  Extend the range of his skills to cope with all but the match by himself right up to the final whistle.

 -  Feel that if he gives enough he can win the match by himself right up to the final whistle.

 -  Be more concerned with what he does badly than with what he does well.

 -  Reject completely any twinge of complacency about his abilities.

 -  Enlist whatever helps’s available, inside or outside his club/rugby.

 -  Underline his commitment to his team-mates in practice and in matches.

 -  Adopt an athletic lifestyle, staying focused throughout the year.

The message is clear: don’t wait for other people to help you, don’t accept their idea of working hard-get in there and help yourself.
